Crossing America by Bicycle
January 23, 2019 @ 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM£3
I’ve lived in the Exmouth area since the age of 4, so I feel I can class myself as a Devonian. On leaving Exmouth Community College I worked at Clarks Shoes for a few years and then decided the 9-5 wasn’t for me. I jumped on my bicycle and pedalled to Israel, to work on a Kibbutz near the Gaza Strip, just as the first Intifada started! Having cycled from the UK to Israel in my early twenties, it’s taken me until my early forties, to get on my bike and tour again. I gave up my job and rented out my house in order to take on the Trans America route from East to West. I then cycled from Vancouver Island to San Francisco clocking up 6000 miles in total in 2010, and losing 56lbs in weight in the process!”
But it’s always lovely to return to East Devon, the place I call home. To make ends meet I run a summer camp for children at Orcombe Point in Exmouth, along with other part-time jobs.
