VISIT TO ARLINGTON COURT – 8th OCTOBER
In October, we will be visiting Arlington Court in North Devon, the home of the Chichester family from its construction in the 1820s until being given to the National Trust in 1949. As well as the house and its eclectic contents, the site includes over twenty miles of footpaths, Victorian formal gardens and a walled kitchen garden. The 70th anniversary of the estate coming into the Trust’s ownership is this year being marked by a campaign to plant 7,000 new trees on the estate.
In addition, Arlington Court is home to the National Trust’s Carriage Museum with over 40 horse drawn vehicles on display. This year, the Speaker’s State Coach, constructed in the late seventeenth century and used on state occasions until 1981, is included in the display.
Booking details will be included in the Autumn Newsletter.
